The Orphanage
“We have 68 Children this time of year coming from different places with different circumstances. Who can we accept, who we are supposed to refuse or deny ? Like we always say in our Orphanage ,”the Child remains a child.” When he or she is abandoned, he or she is a victim of some kind situation. Therefore where the child came from, we do not know; however, we know he or she is a survivor and alive and deserves : acceptance for shelter, care, love, attention, education and all the rest. God will prevail.
Among our 68 Children , the age varies from 5 months to 11 years old:35 boys from 7 months to 9 years and 33 girls from 9 months to 10 year old. The oldest now is an 11 years old boy, who is paralysed, with muscular atrophy.
The children arrive with no identity. No family, no name, no age, except those found at the hospitals, because they have recorded their date of birth . We, as their ‘Mothers’, do everything for them for their safety and their identities. They are our miracle, our protégés, our sense clearly defined by Christ of letting the children come to Him.
Children have fun and interact easily with our Volunteers who are very much involved due to the need around the orphanage. Volunteers play with the children, read to them, help with their homework. These children with no family are happy, smile and get many talents to perform.
Having a positive attitude, being optimistic, giving comfort, love and care to each and every one of them, remains the key of any development of the child and the success in his or her life.
John, our ‘Baby Star’ with birth defect and deformities, is still in Italy with our Italian Sisters of Mary. He is 2 years old and is beginning to speak Italian, Three more surgeries will be done on him at about 5 years old and the one big plastic surgery will be perform after when he reaches the age of 7 or 8, according to the Dr who is in charge of him at the Hospital. God has been very good to us in all the ways and many ways.
We glorify His Almighty Name each day. The miracle is in our footsteps :in our childrens’ cribs, in our childrens’ plates of rice, food or homework. God is present within all gestures, smiles and activities which make them happy.
People want to adopt the Children at home and we encourage that step very much. They bring to a child happiness and he or she will have finally his or her own Mother and Father ; and sometimes if it is a big family : brothers , sisters and grandparents..
The Rotary Club Dji Dji of Pointe Noire with their President , Mr Constantin Babela, brought Food, toys, supplies for the Children at Christmas. Children surrounded him , jumping and performed a great song to thank him and the organization ; they were very happy.
What a Blessing !”
